TROAS. Zeleia. Mid to late 5th century BC. Obol (Silver, 7.5 mm, 0.63 g, 10 h). Forepart of a chimaera to left: a lion's forepart to left between two opposed heads of goats. Rev. Facing head of a gorgon, with snaky hair and a protruding tongue; all within incuse square. BMFA 2325 ( hemidrachm? ). M. Six, "Monnaies grecques, inédites et incertaines" in NC 1890, p. 235, 16 ( triobol or hemidrachm? ). SNG Arikantürk 796-797. Apparently very rare. An intriguing and unusual coin with a lovely grey toning. Rough surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.
