SASANIAN KINGS. Jamasp, 497-499. Drachm (Silver, 29 mm, 3.88 g, 3 h), 'BYŠ' mint (Bishapur), RY 2 = 497 . Crowned and cuirassed bust of Jamasp to right; to right, small bust of Ahura Mazda(?) left, holding wreath. Rev. Fire altar with attendants and ribbon; star and crescent flanking flame; on the left, date; on the right, mint. Göbl Type I/1. SNS 3, Type Ib/Ia, and Plate 111, A6. Good very fine.
Jāmāsp is also sometimes referred to as Zamasp. Hardly anything is known from his brief reign. As Schindel has pointed out, it is even uncertain if the small bust on the obverse is representing Ahura Mazda or an heir to the throne (cf. SNG 3/1, p.459).
