THE LEVANT OR ARABIA. Uncertain mint. Mid to late 4th century . Trihemiobol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.72 g, 12 h). Female (?) head to right, wearing very schematic helmet or headdress. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl with closed wings, wide open eyes and prominent claws to right, head facing; to left, olive sprig. Cf. Obolos 24, 2022, 436, otherwise unpublished. Original find patina. Very fine.
This is a very enigmatic coin. Many imitation Athenian obols are known, often from the Levant, Gaza or the Philisto-Arabian area. This specific type, with the very oddly made helmet or headdress, seems to be otherwise unpublished.
