THE LEVANT OR THE EAST. Uncertain. Mid 4th Century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 17.28 g, 8 h), Eastern imitation of an Athenian issue of the 420s BC. Head of Athena to right, with a mostly frontal eye, wearing crested Attic helmet with palmette and three olive leaves. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive spray and crescent moon. A very close imitation of an Athenian issue of the later 5th century BC, but with enough stylistic anomalies to exclude it from being struck in Athens. Do note the basic lack of a reverse incuse and Athena's odd expression. Lightly cleaned, otherwise, very fine.
