Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 302-280 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.23 g, 6 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with Skylla hurling a stone. Rev. ΤΑΡ Owl, with closed wings and head turned to face the viewer, standing to left on thunderbolt; in field to left, torch. Cf. HN III 975. Vlasto 1101 ( same dies ). Nicely centered, boldly struck and very attractive. Extremely rare with this symbol and with the left-headed Athena. Nearly extremely fine.
