LYDIA. Tralles. Octavian, 30 BC. (Bronze, 17.5 mm, 2.66 g, 12 h), Menandros Parrhasiou. ΚΑΙΣΑΡΕΩΝ Bare head of Octavian to right. Rev. ΜΕΝΑΝΔΡΟΣ ΠΑΡΡΑΣΙΟΥ Clasped hands holding caduceus adorned with ribbons. RPC 2637. Lovely chocolate brown patina. The finest of five known. No examples on Coinarchives and none in private hands. Similar type sold in Gemini 10 (13 Jan 2013), 519 for $3500. Small die break on obverse, otherwise, very fine.

This coin was struck by Menandros Parrhasiou in honor of Vedius Pollio (died circa 15 BC). Pollio was a friend of Octavian who was infamous for feeding slaves to his lampreys.
