Hostilian, as Caesar, 250-251. Aureus (Gold, 20 mm, 3.94 g, 6 h), Rome, 251. C VALES HOSTIL MES QVINTVS N C Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Hostilian to right. Rev. PRINCIPI IV - VENTVTIS Prince, in military dress, standing left, holding baton in his right hand and spear in his left. Biaggi 1406 (same dies). Cohen 37 var. (VALENS). Calicó 3318 (but misdescribed). De Sartiges 343 (same dies). Mazzini 37v (same dies). RIC 181a (but misdescribed). Extremely rare, perhaps only the second known example. Minor marks and some edge scrapes, possibly once mounted, otherwise, about very fine.
