L. Caecilus Metellus, C. Publicius Malleolus, A Postumius S. f. Albinus, late 90s BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.83 g, 11 h), Rome. A-ALB.S.F / L. METEL Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. C.MALL / ROMA Roma seated left on pile of flat shields; behind her to right, Victory standing to left and crowning her. Babelon (Caecilia) 45, (Poblicia) 2, (Postumia) 2. Crawford 335/1a. Sydenham 611. A beautifully toned, nicely centered example. Extremely fine. From the collection of W. M. Stoecklin, Winterthur, Switzerland, acquired prior to 1981.
