Description

Cilicia. Soloi. Circa 410-375 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 10.50 g, 1 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet with griffin to right on the bowl; on neck plate, palmette. Rev. ΣΟΛΕ - ΩΝ Bunch of grapes on stem with tendrils and leaf; around, ΑΙ - ΡΕ. Traité II, 1431. SNG Paris 174. SNG von Aulock 5867. Beautifully toned, of excellent late classical style and very well centered - this is surely one of the finest of all staters of Soloi. Nearly extremely fine. From the Ravenel Collection, USA, a Swiss collection, and from the collections of the Johns Hopkins University and J. W. Garrett, Bank Leu/Numismatic Fine Arts, Part II, 16 October 1984, 278, and C.
