Description

Sicily. Panormos (as Ziz). Circa 400-390 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.26 g, 12 h). SYS (in Punic) Quadriga galopping to left; above, Nike flying right to crown the driver; in exergue, to right, clam shell. Rev. Female head to right, her hair bound with a broad band, and wearing a simple necklace with a single pendant; around, four dolphins swimming to right. Jenkins, Punic 18 (this coin cited). SNG Lloyd 1580 (same obverse die). Very rare. Beautifully toned and very attractive. Extremely fine. From the Ravenel Collection, USA, and from the collection of C. Gillet, Monnaies et Médailles 43, 12 November 1970, 44.
