ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ Nike standing right, erecting trophy; to left, uncertain monogram; to right, monogram of ΠΑ. HGC 9, 155 (R2). Cf. ESM 163 and 167. Cf. SC 388.1 and 388.2. Brown patina, and lacking the environmental damage normally seen on bronzes from this mint. Very fine.
From the Thomas Kirby Collection, USA.
Seleukid bronzes from Seleukeia on the Tigris are most often found poorly preserved, often crudely struck and more often with heavy porosity. The present example is thus very nice for the issue, with even wear and of excellent style, and lacking any environmental damage.
