Description
ISLANDS OFF IONIA, Chios. Circa 400-380 BC. Drachm (Silver, 13 mm, 3.65 g). Sphinx seated to left on ground line; to left, bunch of grapes over Chian amphora; to right, Θ. Rev. Granulated quadripartite incuse square. Baldwin - but see p. 30 = Imhoof-Blumer 134 = Mavrogordato 41a. HGC 6, 1124. Extremely rare - Mavrogordato recorded just three examples. Very fine.
