CRUSADERS. Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. Imitation Dirhams, mid to late 13th century. Dirham (Silver, 22.5 mm, 2.17 g, 11 h), in the name of the Ayyubid al-Salih Isma'il, Acre. CCS 9. Metcalf, Crusades 233-5. Toned. Very fine.
From the Trausnitz collection, ex Hirsch 264, 25 November 2009, 1033.
As the earlier dirhams with a cross were refused by the local Arab inhabitants, the Crusaders revived the issuance of Ayyubid imitations with the name of the Ayyubid al-Salih Isma'il, although removing the name of Allah.
