BRUTTIUM. Lokroi Epizephyrioi. Circa 288-279 BC or 218-202 BC. (Bronze, 26 mm, 14.43 g, 12 h). Head of Persephone to right, wearing pendant earring and pearl necklace; behind, grape bunch. Rev. ΛOKPΩN Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt; before, monogram of ΑΓ; above, grape bunch. HGC 1, 1578. HN III 2372. SNG Copenhagen 1880. Spinelli XI, 18 (D12/R18), this coin depicted. Rare. Mottled green patina. Very fine.

Traditionally, this issue is often dated circa 288-279 BC. However, M. Spinelli, La monetazione di Locri Epizefiri Pelorias 27 (2019), prefers to associate this type with the Second Punic War. We favor Spinelli's dating.
