★ Outstanding Celtic Head of Zeus ★
CELTIC, Lower Danube. Uncertain tribe. Early 3rd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24.5 mm, 13.27 g, 8 h), type 'Siegesreiter', an early imitation of Philip II, copying an issue from Amphipolis. Stylized laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΦΛΙΠΠ-Y Jockey on horseback right, raising right arm and holding reins in left hand; below horse's belly, Λ above stylized race torch; below raised foreleg, uncertain symbol or monogram, similar to a Ϙ with a long tail pointing to the left and traces of an uncertain letter to the right of it. An early imitation with an exquisite Celtic interpretation of the head of Zeus on the obverse and an incomplete Greek legend above the Siegesreiter on the reverse.
