Description

Diocletian, 284-305. Aureus (Gold, 19 mm, 5.70 g, 6 h), Rome, 289-290. DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG Laureate head of Diocletian to right. Rev. IOVI CONSERVATORI / PR Jupiter seated left on throne, holding thunderbolt and scepter; at his feet to left, eagle with wreath in its beak. Calicó 4510. Cohen 266 var. (bust type). RIC 142a var. (bust type). Rare. Scuff on the obverse and bangs and scrapes on the reverse , otherwise, good very fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired from Bank Leu in Zürich prior to 1975.
