ARGOLIS. Epidauros. Circa 265-255 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.41 g, 6 h). Laureate and bearded head of Asklepios to right. Rev. Ε within laurel wreath tied at the bottom; below, Π. BCD Peloponnesos 1246 ff. BMC 19-20. Newell 1935, 50. A pleasant piece with a dark patina. Some striking flatness, otherwise, very fine.
From the Maleatas Collection, acquired from the BCD Collection on 13 July 1988, ex A.H. Baldwin, stock, May 1974.
The obverses of the bronzes of this series are so close to those on the drachms with the bearded head of Asklepios that they must be roughly contemporary.
