CORINTHIA. Corinth. Circa 450-415 BC. Stater (Silver, 24 mm, 8.40 g, 9 h). Ϙ Pegasos flying right, with curved wing. Rev. Head of Aphrodite to right, wearing a Corinthian helmet, a pearl necklace, and with her hair falling in a long queue down the back of her neck; in the field behind her head, Ϙ; all within deep incuse square. Calciati 80/1 = Numismatic Fine Arts XVIII, 1987, 157 ( same obverse die, very similar reverse die ). With a wonderful reverse, struck from a skillfully engraved die bearing a lovely head of the goddess with a truly fetching 'archaic smile'. Obverse struck from a worn die some surface roughness and a minor flan crack, otherwise, extremely fine.
