ATTICA. Athens. Circa 500-490 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 21.5 mm, 17.19 g, 9 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing an Attic helmet with a dotted zick-zack crest holder and a disc earring. Rev. ΑΘΕ Slightly slim owl with closed wings standing right, head facing; behind, in the field to left, olive sprig with a single berry and two leaves; in the field to right, between the Θ and the Ε, either a curious die break or a small Υ or Τ; all within an incuse square. Selectman cf. P 147. Svoronos, Trésor, pl. 4, 42 var. An impressive and intriguing coin, nicely toned. Struck on quite a short flan, otherwise, about extremely fine.
