Nude horseman galloping right, holding round shield and two spears in his left hand, and striking downwards with a spear held in his upraised right; in field to left, Ξ; below horse, API. Rev. TAPAΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding rudder in his left hand and a kantharos in his right; in field to left, KΛ. Fischer-Bossert Group 74a, 914b (V357/R709, this coin ). It is particularly difficult to find nomoi from Tarentum with exceptionally clear details, especially the faces of both the horseman and Phalanthos/Taras, such as they exist on this coin. Here, everything is clear and sharp, and the coin is beautifully toned as well, making this an especially desirable piece.
