AKARNANIA. Leukas. Circa 350-300 BC. (Bronze, 16 mm, 3.15 g, 7 h). Λ Bellerophon on Pegasos flying to left. Rev. Chimaera crouching to right. BCD Akarnania 260.3. HGC 4, 866. Brown patina. Rough, otherwise, fine.
This coin is interesting in that it is like the pages of a book. On the obverse we see the hero Bellerophon riding on his mount, the winged horse Pegasos. His hand is raised, and although it is not shown here, he probably wields a spear, which he is about to use to slay the monster Chimaera, which occupies the reverse.
