Description
SICILY. Gela. Circa 450-440 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 16.67 g, 10 h). Quadriga driven slowly to right by a bearded charioteer; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, voluted palmette. Rev. ΓΕΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right; above. BMC 36 ( same dies ). HGC 2, 343. Jenkins Group IV, 341 (O66/R132). SNG Lockett 771 ( same dies ) . Graffito on the reverse. Nearly very fine.
