Description
BAKTRIA, Pre-Seleukid Era. Sophytes, circa 305-294 BC. Obol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.57 g, 6 h), uncertain mint in the Oxus Region. Male head to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with laurel wreath and wing on cheek guard. Rev. ΣΩΦΥΤΟΥ Cockerel standing right; to left, kerykeion. Bopearachchi, Sophytes -. HGC 12, 17. SNG ANS 26. Darkly toned. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.
