Description

THRACE. Chersonesos. Circa 386-338 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 12.5 mm, 2.45 g, 12 h). Forepart of a lion to right, his head turned back to left. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square with two raised and two sunken squares; in one of the sunken squares, pellet with monogram of AΓ; in the other, lighted torch. McClean 4092. Weber 2407. Van Alfen, Essays Metcalf 30-4. Bright and with a slight goldish tone. Very pleasant in the hand (putting it somewhere else may be unwise). Good very fine.
