Description

LUCANIA. Thurium. Circa 400-350 BC. Distater (Silver, 27 mm, 15.84 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing Attic helmet adorned with Skylla to right on the bowl and a griffin to right on the neck guard. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right, his head turned slightly to his right; in the exergue, grey mullet swimming to right. HN III 1803. Noe C.2 ( same dies ). SNG ANS 958 ( same dies ). Beautifully toned and particularly attractive. Almost imperceptible hairline crack, otherwise, extremely fine.
