BYZANTINE SEALS. Basil, circa 2nd half of 12th century. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 24 mm, 19.23 g, 12 h). (OA)/Θ - E/O/Δ/P Nimbate and bearded facing bust of St. Theodore, holding a spear over his right shoulder with his right hand and holding a shield with his left. Rev. +KE BO/HΘI BA/CIΛEIΩ in three lines with decorated crosses above and below. The whole within plain dotted border. Unpublished save its prior auction appearance. A seal of a military officer, produced in a provincial workshop. Very fine.
