Description

KYRENAICA, Kyrene. Circa 500-480 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 9mm, 2.12 g). Silphium fruit (seed pod?). Rev. Four rayed star with a pellet at the center and between each of the rays. Cf. BMC 33-34 ( obol and hemiobol with the same types ) and BMC 19 ( drachm with the same reverse type ). Very rare and apparently unpublished . Uncleaned as found with horn silver deposits, otherwise , very fine.
