Description

SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Litra (Silver, 10mm, 0.81 g 1), c. 405. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ Head of Arethusa to left, her hair bound up in a sakkos, wearing a simple earring and a pearl necklace; to right, dolphin swimming downwards to left. Rev. Octopus. SNG ANS 293. Rather scarce. Nicely toned. Basically as found but with deposits remaining and traces of minor cleaning on the reverse, otherwise , very fine.
