Description

MACEDON. Eion. Circa 480-470 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.84 g). Two geese, one standing to right with spread wings and the other, standing left with its head turned to right; annulet between. Rev. Rough incuse square. AMNG III, 33. SNG ANS 268. Light porosity, otherwise, about very fine.

Struck on the Persic standard, this issue may have been struck by the sons of the Macedonian king Alexander I, who were allied with the Persians. Alexander blinded and banished his sons after the Persians were expelled.
