Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 340-335 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.55 g, 12 h). Nude jockey riding horse standing to right, crowning his horse with a wreath held in his right hand; below horse, nude boy kneeling right, cleaning the horse’s left front hoof; to right, Φ. Rev. [ΤΑΡΑΣ] Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin side-saddle to left, holding trident, shield and kantharos. Fischer-Bossert 700 (V262/R546'). HN III 818. Vlasto 515 ( same obverse die ). Lightly toned. Minor porosity, otherwise, very fine.
