MACEDON. Mende. Circa 460-423 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 16.69 g, 3 h), c. 440-430. Dionysos, bearded and wearing himation, holding a kantharos in his extended right hand and resting his left, reclining left on the back of a donkey walking right; to right, crow perched on a vine to right. Rev. MEN-ΔA-IO-N Linear square containing a vine with leaves, tendrils and four bunches of grapes. Noe, Mende 67. SNG ANS 334 ( same obverse die but in a later stage ). With an obverse of very good style, elegantly engraved. Porous surfaces and reverse struck from a very worn die, otherwise, good very fine.
