Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 14.12 g, 1 h), struck posthumously under Polyperchon, Amphipolis, 318-317. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠ - ΠΟΥ Nude jockey riding horse walking to right, holding long palm branch in his right hand; below horse, grain ear; monogram of ΠΟ below horse's raised foreleg. Le Rider pl. 46, 3. SNG ANS 667-73. Troxell, Studies, Group 8, 314. Toned. Two test cuts on reverse, light scratches, otherwise, very fine.
