Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy IV, 225-205 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 14.10 g, 11 h), uncertain mint in Cilicia, circa 220-218. Jugate busts to right of Serapis, laureate, bearded and draped, and Isis, crowned, diademed and draped. Rev. ΠT[OΛEMAIOY] BAΣIΛEΩΣ Eagle with closed wings standing on thunderbolt to left, his head turned back to right, with cornucopia at his shoulder; in field to left, ΤΙ; in field to right, monogram of ΠΑ. CPE -. Landvatter -. Svoronos -. Extremely rare and apparently unpublished. Sharply-struck and lightly toned. Reverse struck off-center, otherwise, about extremely fine.
