Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy IV Philopator, 225-205 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 14.20 g, 12 h), Soli in Cilicia. Jugate and draped busts to right of Serapis, laureate, wearing ate crown and bearded, and Isis, crowned, with a sun disc between horns, and diademed. Rev. ΠTOΛEMAIOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ Eagle with closed wings standing on thunderbolt to left, his head turned back to right, with cornucopia at his shoulder; in field to left, owl facing to left above ME; between eagle's legs, AP. Cf. Landvatter 94. Svoronos -. Very rare, apparently unpublished. Very attractive, well-struck and sharp. Some minor marks and light traces of double-striking on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
