KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.94 g, 12 h), struck posthumously in Chios, under magistrate, Eukles, circa 190-165. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ/ΕΥΚΛΗΣ Zeus seated to left on backless throne, holding eagle in his outstreched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, ΠΟ over Sphinx seated on amphora to left. Bauslaugh, Posthumous, Series 68, (80/- (unlisted reverse die). HGC 6, 113. Price 2421. Nicely toned and very attractive, on a broad flan. Very rare late Chian tetradrachm. Slightly doubled obverse and die break on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
