Description

SICILY, Syracuse. Philistis, wife of Hieron II, 275-215 BC. 16 Litrai (Silver, 24mm, 13.60 g 3), 218/7-214. Diademed and veiled bust of Philistis to left; behind, thyrsos. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΙΣΣΑΣ ΦΙΛΙΣΤΙΔ[ΟΣ] Nike driving quadriga moving slowly to right; above, crescent with points to right; to right, [Α]. SNG ANS 876. A very attractive toned coin with a fine portrait. Reverse slightly off center to right, otherwise, extremely fine.
