Description

Justinian II, first reign, 685-695. Solidus (Gold, 20.5 mm, 4.48 g, 6 h), Constantinople, 4th officina = H, 692-695. IhS CRISTDS REX REGNANTIVM Draped bust of Jesus Christ facing, with long hair and full beard, raising right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left; behind head, cross. Rev. D IЧSTINI-ANЧ-S SERЧ ChRISTI Δ / CONOPΑ Justinian II, crowned, bearded and wearing loros, standing facing, holding cross potent on base and two steps in his right hand and akakia in his left. DOC 8b. MIB 8g. SB 1248. Attractive, clear, and very sharp, with a spectacular depiction of Jesus Christ. Obverse very slightly off-centre; slight flatness on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
