Description

Septimius Severus, 193-211. Messenia. Kyparissia (Kyparissos). Diassarion (Bronze, 21.5 mm, 5.22 g, 10 h), c. 198-208. ΛΟVCI - CEΟVΗΡΟC Laureate bust of Septimius Severus to right, seen from behind and with slight drapery over his far shoulder. Rev. KYΠAP-ICCEΩN Asklepios standing facing, head to left, holding staff entwined by serpent. Cf. BCD Peloponnesos 792 (but with a cuirassed bust). BMC 2. Rare. Clear and most attractive with a red-brown-green patina. Some minor pitting, otherwise, about extremely fine.
