Hexassarion (Bronze, 38 mm, 32.77 g, 12 h), struck under the magistrate Metrodoros, strategos for the second time, c. 175-176. ΦΑVCΤΕΙ-ΝΑ CΕΒΑCΤ-Η Draped bust of Faustina II to left, her hair bound into a bun at the back. Rev. ΕΠΙ CΤΡΑ-ΜΗΝΟ-ΔΩΡΟV Τ Ο Β / ΙΕΡΟΚΑΙC-ΑΡΕ / Ω-Ν On the left, hero (Perseus?), nude but for cloak over his shoulders, standing right, holding harpa over his left shoulder and extending his right hand to clasp the extended right hand of Artemis, on the right, standing left, wearing hunting dress and boot, and holding bow with her left hand; between them, flaming thymiaterion. RPC 4.2, 11395. Extremely rare, the better of the two known examples. Of very fine style, struck from very well-engraved dies, and with an attractive dark olive-grey patina. Marks and scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
