Description

Aelius, Caesar, 136-138. As (Copper, 25 mm, 6.86 g, 6 h), Rome, 137. AELIVS CAESAR Bare head of Aelius to right. Rev. TR POT COS II / S-C Spes walking to left, holding flower in her right hand and raising the hem of her robe with her left. BMC 1931. Cohen 57. RIC 2700. Attractive and pleasing with dark brown-green surfaces and a good portrait. Some minor roughness and pitting, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From a Swiss collection and from the Ebert Collection, Stack's etc. 174, 11 January 2013, 5369 (there badly cleaned), and from the collection of H. Hoffer, Harmer Rooke, 12 December 1986, 1062.When this coin was in the Ebert Collection it had rather unpleasantly colored surfaces as a result of very bad cleaning. It has since been professionally conserved and is most attractive.
