Description

Lesbos
Mytilene. Circa 350-300 BC. Didrachm or Double-siglos (Silver, 23 mm, 11.15 g, 12 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΜΥ / Τ-Ι Kithara with seven strings, bound with a fillet on the right; in the field on the lower left, plectrum. BMC 29. SNG Copenhagen 375 (same obverse die). SNG Lockett 2782. SNG Munich 727. Cf. SNG von Aulock 7751-7752. Extremely rare. Well-struck, clear, attractively toned and of excellent Hellenistic style. Very minor traces of corrosion on the reverse, but very carefully and expertly cleaned, otherwise, extremely fine.
