Description

Troas
Abydos. Circa 175-75 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 15.72 g, 1 h), struck under the magistrate Menedemos. Draped bust of Artemis to right, with bow and quiver over her shoulder. Rev. ABH-ΔH-NΩN / ΜEΝEΔΗΜΟΥ Eagle standing right with spread wings; to right, stag standing to right; all within laurel wreath tied at the bottom. Callataÿ, Abydos sur Aesillas -, but cf. p. 83 for this magistrate with a cornucopia control symbol; for this magistrate with the stag control, but struck from different dies, see Pecunem 38, 2015, 224. Bold, attractive and clear. Good very fine.
