Michael VIII Palaeologus, with Andronicus II, 1261-1282. Trachy (Copper, 22 mm, 2.03 g, 6 h), Magnesia or Thessalonica, c. 1272. A in circle /N I/KO Λ/A/OC/Δ Bust of St. Nicholas, with cross nimbus, hand on breast; holding book of Gospels. Rev. Bust of Christ crowning the kneeling figure of Andronicus II and Michael VIII, both holding trifurate scepter in outer hand and a patriarchal cross between them. Cf. DO 44 (silver); Cf. Sear 2317 (same). Apparently unknown struck in copper. Nearly very fine.
