Description

SELEUKID KINGS. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Tetradrachm (26mm, 16,91 g), adopting the types of Alexander III the "Great", uncertain mint I in Cappadocia, eastern Syria, or northern Mesopotamia, circa 294 and later, but most probably in the 280s. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΣEΛEYKOY Zeus seated to left on low throne, holding an eagle in his extended right hand and long scepter in his left; below throne, ΔΙ monogram; monogram in the left field.
