John I, 969-976. Solidus 969/976, Constantinopolis. (21mm, 4.4 g) Obv. Nimbate facing bust of Christ wearing pallium and colobium, raising r. hand in benediction. Book of Gospels in l. hand. Rev. The facing busts of John on l. and the nimbate Virgin on r. John is wearing loros and holds a patriarchal cross on globus in l. hand. The Virgin in stola and maphorium is crowning the emperor with her r. hand. Above her head MΘ Manus dei above John's head.
