During a long time, this exceptional issue was thought to date back to the end of Constantine I's reign and to commemorate the Vicennalia (twentieth anniversary of the reign) of his son Constantine Caesar (future Emperor Constantine II). Recently Dr Lars Ramskold attributed this issue to the interregnum between the murder of Dalmatius and the proclamation of the three Augusti (Constantine II, Constans and Constantius II). (For more details, see Ramskold Lars, “The AVGVSTVS / CAESAR and CAESAR / XX silver Multiples and the Interregnum 337 CE”, in Niš and Byzantium – Nineteen International Symposium, Niš 3-5 June 2020, Niš 2021).
