Nazarana coins were special prestige striking, intended as presentation pieces. They are distinguished from the circulation strikes by their full broad flans and careful striking. According to Nilesh Gada and Dr. Dilip Rajgor in their Corpus of Mughal Coins of India, this extremely rare Nazanara Mohur was struck to celebrate the birth of the Princess Zeb-un-Nissa (15 February 1638). She was the first child of the Prince Aurangzeb and the first grandchild of Shâh Jahân.
