Byzantine lead seal of military officer Ioannes
(ca 11th cent.).
Obverse: Bust of saint martyr Theodore (stratelates), facial, nimbate, in military garments, holding spear and shield, sigla, Ο (ΑΓΙΟC)/ΘΕ-Ο/Δ/Ω (ΡΟC) (Saint Theodoros), inscription above, ΚΕΒΟΗΘΕΙ (Lord, help), all within dotted border.
Reverse: Bust of saint martyr George, facial, nimbate, in military garments, holding spear and shield, sigla, Ο (ΑΓΙΟC)/ΓΕ-Ω/Ρ/ΓΙ(ΟC) (Saint George), inscription above, ΙΩΑΝΝΙ (Ioannes), all within dotted border.
Commentary: It's to note that the lead flan was much larger than the boulloterion, resulting to have a so well centered sealing and in high relief.
