Description

Sicily, Agrigentum Hemilitron circa 405-392, Æ 30mm., 20.89g. Blank Rev. Circular countermark with head of Heracles wearing lion skin r. Calciati, p. 197. SNG ANS 1065.

Nice light green patina, Very Fine.

The counterstamp was most likely added after Akragas was destroyed by the Carthiginians. In addition, winning bids of EEC clients for this coin are subject to a 5% fee on hammer price as a reimbursement for import duty paid to HMRC.
