Description

Egypt, Alexandria Tesserae II-III cent., PB 19mm., 3.51g. Male figure standing r., crowned by Nike, who advances left and holds palm; sceptre(?) in left field. Rev. Nilus seated r., holding cornucopia and reed; before, Alexandria(?) standing left, raising hand; crocodile in left field, in exergue, LIS. Cf. Dattari (Savio) 6437. Geissen 3572 (cantharus between); for reverse. cf. Dattari (Savio) pl. 322, 6451-6473 (undated).
